The Farmhouse: Il Poggiale

We’ll be staying at Il Poggiale, a charming 17th-century farmhouse (agriturismo) located about 30 km from Siena and 45 km from Grosseto, nestled within the Natural Reserve of the Basso Merse River — a peaceful haven between Maremma and Chianti.

The property includes nine beautifully restored stone apartments, each with independent heating and kitchenettes. Il Poggiale has maintained it;s original structure made of thick stone walls, traditional wooden beams and arches. This creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that blends rustic character with modern comfort. Guests may choose single or multiple occupancy apartments.

A small number of hotel rooms (single or double occupancy) are also available at Val di Farma, another nearby agriturismo just a 10-minute walk away, where breakfast and lunch will be served daily.

Il Poggiale sits amid rolling Tuscan hills, offering panoramic views of forests and cultivated valleys. The surrounding woods — home to ancient oaks, beech, and juniper trees — shelter deer, hares, badgers, and pheasants. The clear waters of the Merse River, flowing right beside the farmhouse, are perfect for a refreshing swim during warmer months.

Between Zumba® sessions, wine tastings, and visits to medieval towns, you’ll have the chance to embrace the essence of Italian “slow living” — enjoying peaceful walks through nature, savoring fresh air, and soaking in the simple beauty of Tuscan life.
